TEXTING ARCHITECTS

Q3 PROJECT IS ?

We are texting with 100 prominent architects – sending them SMSes. The architects are out of context, so are their sentences. They are replying, but at the same time, they are unaware of the action. If they have something to say, they will write back. Consistency is in the spectrum.

Adam Caruso

In this book the representation of each project is brutally edited so that it corresponds precisely to the title of its chapter.

The EPFL project is one of a series of unbuilt projects (with the University of Lucerne, and the National Palace Museum Taiwan in Taipei) in which square plans twists from floor to floor, supported by an elaborate system of raking columns.

The methodology behind the architectural project is essentially one of a singular rhetoric applied in different contexts, which is what gives it a false impression of multiplicity and adaptability.

JADE ECO PARK Landscape and architectural design for a new 70 hectare park on the site of the old airport, with leisure, sport, family and tourist activities, a 3000 m2 visitor center, a maintenance center, and the urban regulation for a new museum and the Taiwan tower The ambition of our project is to give back the outdoors to the inhabitants and visitors by proposing to create exterior spaces where the excesses of the subtropical warm and humid climate of Taichung are lessened.

It makes visible different layers of insulation and where heat enters physically, it seeps literally, slips, slides, and then expands and flares for placing rooms according to temperatures. Our project is defined as a series of layers of insulation that gradually reduce the heat transfer coefficient U from 0.3 W/m2.K in the first layer to 0.1 in the third stratum.

This project is not only a response to the technical issues of sustainable development.

The Tokyo Guggenheim project is different, because it is not easy to understand if you do not first realise that it is a provisional building that will be dismantled and change location after eight years.

Any project is a social project; thinking that "architecture is social inclusion" does not make much sense.

Any proposed architectural project is a social act of construction.

any project is a social project. All of this has to do with understanding behaviors, not typologies.

As I said, any project is a social project.

it also lets us take further the idea we have of encouraging new forms of behavior, economic transformation, entrepreneurship and many other activities that generate pride and belonging within communities, because it's value is not only in whether they are beautiful or ugly, but in how inhabitants multiply the buildings' uses by appropriating the spaces for their needs. an architectural project is not the idea of an architect, but a conversation between many different professionals that base their practice in trust.

This project is part of the political concerns of the municipality of Santa Marta and the Carulla Foundation to improve the educational and nutritional conditions of the communities displaced by violence, and settled on the outside perimeter of the city.

Our project is developing a functional strategy, and environmental space based on a modular system or repeated patterns that can be connected in various ways, allowing it to adapt to various urban educational, topographical or geometric situations.

The premise of each project is based on precisely defined architectural concerns, such as structure, enclosure, porosity etc.

From a Fiction of Precision back to a Fantasy of its Re appropriation The project is conceived as a resultant product of a very explicit research line, investigating the design and build component of a coherent environment.

Selgas Cano

Selgas Cano

The project is interconnected beneath the courtyard level.

The Badajoz project is actually quite large, and there were times during construction when it had a brute presence.

The project is quite similar to the House in La Florida,4 which we had built a few years before, where one of our main aims was precisely to insert the brief for a house almost without touching any of the trees on the site, and to leave the forest intact.

The project is designed to lock in the definitive size of our studio.

After the initial design process the project is assigned to a project manager, often one of the three partners, and a project team.

We won and the project is currently in its final design stage.

And so this project is at the same time a perfect example of contemporary and dignified health care architecture, and a denial of every formal cliché that could be attached to a building with this kind of service.

In the process not only are single parts replaced, completed, eliminated or joined again, off and on the basic ambition of the project is given a completely new definition.

Each project is like a composition that should have an idea that steers the design.

That project is 12 years old, but when I go back inside, I feel it is just as alive as it was on the opening day.

Each project is different.

The engineer I've been working with on this project is the same person who has worked with me on all my buildings in China, Dr. Xiao Congzhen.

Alvaro Siza

Alvaro Siza

In my case, every project is a new risk— a risco (in Portuguese, risco means sketch, as well as risk).

Nowadays, a project is usually surrounded by a quite turbulent.

I think the room for freedom in a project is established by the circumstances surrounding each situation, which is what the architect's work should discover.

The Granada project is more complex and difficult.

Alvaro Siza

Lacaton Vassal

Lacaton Vassal

The design of the project is not monolithic.

The project is made of fragments.

There are connections between our African experience and the Latapie House, while the first unbuilt project is much more related with the project in Coutras; the Mulhouse dwellings are just an adaptation of these small projects at another scale of collective housing.

Lacaton Vassal

There is not something wrong with cladding, but to me the Waterline Museum could not have been made in steel and clad because the project is about a form, and I wished to make it in a mono material.

you mean to say the work; the ultimate aim of the project is to be materialised 74 with what means?

A project is a really good project when it teaches a complex lesson about a particular phenomenon, and that doesn't necessarily mean that what you do produces a complex result.

The landscape is a place in itself but for us the project is the same as the urban context.

Bjarke Ingels

Your project is only going to survive if it tries to either navigate around the conflict or incorporate a lot of the concerns. .

Of course, the entire idea of reframing the angle of the project is that you set the terms of the debate by defining what will be the key issues.

81 The kind of politics that can actually inform a project is the acrobatic quest that incorporates every · body's concerns.

So you enter this twilight zone between a master plan and a masterpiece, where a single project is required to have an identity, but like that of a neighborhood rather than a single architectural building.

Bjarke Ingels

Johnston Marklee

Johnston Marklee

this project is a dream for us, situated within the surreal landscape of buildings and gardens of this historic neighborhood of art.

our project is part of an exhibition designed by OFFICE KGDVS.

I think as the scale shifts, it happens in different ways, but I feel like that project is important to understand on that level, even in subtle ways it's literally responding to the neighboring structures and the shape of the vault.

One of the prompts about this project is not only to create an exhibition for architects within the profession, but also try to expand audiences to make it be something that can really celebrate the city of Chicago There are a series of not very nice circulation zones, that span north to south in the building, that are sort of left over spaces now.

One of the prompts about this project is not only to create an exhibition for architects within the profession, but also try to expand audiences to make it be something that can really celebrate the city of Chicago, so I think part of our thinking is that in the way that we trying to create a lot of dialogue between the architects, we're trying to create a lot of dialogue between the building, and help people see the building in a different way, which we hope will be valuable to open up the kinds of ideas that are in the exhibition to the larger public.

The 'Drone Orchestra' project is exploring the drone as a cultural agent, not a militarized one because that's the way that we consume and relate to technology in the end the mobile phone started out as being a device through which we are efficiently able communicate with each other while we're on the move, but now it's a really extraordinary object of culture, it's an extension of ourselves and our social lives, we decorate them and they become fashion objects.

Each film project is more than just a narrative it's actually an experiment in technology and are seeded with design projects.

I think that's a big part of the Unknown Fields project is trying to map all these landscapes, infrastructures and spaces that constitute this city.

Similarly my next film project is in that same context, it's in India but its looking at render farms and outsourced animation studios where so much of popular Western culture is produced.

One of the reasons we managed to stay on for the whole project is because we had a neutral position. Almost all four [interview candidates] talked about the reduction of light as something important.

today we consist of graphical designers, interior designers, landscape architects, urban planners, architects and artists from 27 nations, 180 persons in total located in oslo, norway, new york, USA, dahran, saudi arabia, innsbruck, austria and san francisco, USA. every project is considered to be unique, independent of size or complexity.

JDS

While it is true that the project is highly visible and powerful, its coming to existence was purely pragmatic: we wanted to create a structure that would be able to assemble all the required functions into itself, with a minimal impact on the environment and at a minimum cost and construction period, since we had to meet the deadline of the World Championship in ski jumping.

Every project is some sort of micro manifesto, and what's great about that potential is that it can be reused.

There is a bunch of big ones political issues, social issues, financial issues then in the end if every project is addressing an aspect, you can make it grow through the different projects. On a scale of one to ten?

Norman Foster

The project is rooted in an understanding that sustainability requires us to think about more that just reducing a building's energy consumption: if we are to reverse the wasteful pattern of people commuting from the suburbs, we also have to create urban communities that are attractive places in which to live and work.

Ecosistema Urbano

Ecosistema Urbano

The top of the structure consists of a textile roof that provides shelter, enabling play during both rainy and bright sunny day This project is currently under prototyping and construction but will eventually attract many visitors and residents to Governeusplein square.

Another remarkable feature of the project is OPEN SPACE, an integrated educational program for children with the goal to improve the urban environment, which among others accommodates a water purification system based on natural processes.

Just as cities have residents and visitors, and planning is made at different scales, every urban project is born in a constant movement between the direct experience and specificity of the local context, and the global, shared flow of information and knowledge.

Your relationship with temporality changes when you know that your project is set to be bulldozed in such a short time.

The B018 project is, first of all, a reaction to difficult and explosive conditions that are inherent to the history of its location and the contradictions that are implied by the implementation of an entertainment program on such a site. B018 refuses to participate in the naïve amnesia that governs the post war reconstruction efforts. The project is built below ground.

The Green Manufacture project is structured around two activities and spaces that work in synergy: a garden which includes three types of surfaces (ground plot, green roofs, vertical walls) and will be mainly cultivated with 'industrial' plants that can be used for the realisation of constructive elements and micro objects and which could add an ecological dimension to Parisian block.

The vision for the project is to create a series of new halls for informal, public functions such as an event hall and a swimming hall.

The whole project is executed using one unifying material; red corten steel that will speak the language of the forest, the rusty abrasion of the industrial harbour and the significant historical brick buildings around the area.

Whilst keeping with developer's brief's and legal regulations, the project is designed from a standpoint of sustainability.
